Linda R. Nelson, MD, PhD
Dr. Nelson has joined Dr. Sujatha Gunnala at the Southwest Fertility Center in July 2010. Dr. Nelson has been active in Reproductive Endocrinology Practice, as well as, clinical research and teaching of residents and students for the past 15 years. Dr. Nelson provides all aspects of reproductive endocrinology and infertility patient care including surgery and assisted reproductive technology. Dr. Nelson is ABOG certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and the subspecialty of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and is a member of the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology (SREI).
Dr. Nelson received her Ph.D. degree in psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles and then received her M.D. from the University of Miami. She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Internship and Residency at the University of California at Los Angeles followed by a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship at the University of California at San Francisco. Following her clinical Fellowship, Dr. Nelson was a Clinical Associate in the UCSF IVF Group for two years.
In addition to clinical training, Dr. Nelson has received both Predoctoral and Postdoctoral NIH Fellowship Awards and has continued to research the impact of stress on infertility and women’s health as well as the role of inflammatory proteins in ovulation induction and early pregnancy.
Prior to joining Southwest Fertility Center, Dr. Nelson was in academic medicine in the Midwest. Dr. Nelson was an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC).
Dr. Nelson translates her experience in the field of education to her clinical practice. She takes an active role in educating patients on all aspects of their diagnostic and treatment options and in helping them make decisions on how best to proceed. She is an active member of the patient education committee of ASRM and strives to provide clear communication of the results and recommendations to each patient or couple. Dr. Nelson and all members of the team at Southwest Fertility share the unified goal of maximizing the chance of success for their patients in their pursuit of building a family.
